Cartels' growing drone use along US-Mexico border raises concern

This photo from July 2020 shows an autonomous Border Patrol surveillance tower along the Southwest border. A U.S. Customs and Border Protection official says 34,682 drone flights were detected within 500 meters of the U.S.-Mexico border in fiscal year 2025. That compares to 7,678 along the border with Canada.
