Photos: Tucsonans rally against police brutality at UA, police headquarters
The peaceful Rally Against Police Brutality on the University of Arizona campus on June, 3, 2020, organized by March for Justice, attracted more than 1,500 people. Speakers shared their experiences about being Black in the United States.
A smaller group marched to the Tucson Police Department headquarters downtown. They talked with Tucson Police commanders and officers, some of whom kneeled with protesters.

Nearly 2,000 people gathered at the University of Arizona for a rally against police brutality. Many attendees also participated in a separate march and protest in Downtown Tucson, ending the night with a civil, face-to-face conversation with Tucson police officers.
While the governor said racism exists in Arizona, he would not commit to police reforms requested by some lawmakers.
Tucson Mayor Regina Romero expressed frustration in a tweet about how she wasn't given a heads up by governor about curfew.
Even with absences, emergency dispatching services continued as expected during outbreak, city officials said.
Tucson's proposed budget includes more than $165 million for TPD. As calls to defund grow, city leaders are looking for ways to fund community safety resources without having to take from police funds.
