Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords joined others at an informal gathering at the January 8th Memorial, known as "The Embrace," near the Pima County Historic Courthouse on the 13th anniversary of the shooting on Monday. Six people died and 13 were injured when a gunman opened fire outside the Safeway store at Ina and Oracle roads on Jan. 8, 2011. Giffords was holding a "Congress On Your Corner" event on Tucson's northwest side when the attack occurred.

Col. Badger tackled the gunman and helped to stop the massacre. Badger survived the shooting and died later in 2015.
