Photos: Two-alarm fire heavily damages apartment complex in Northwest Tucson
A two-alarm fire heavily damaged an apartment complex in the Flowing Wells neighborhood northwest of Tucson on Friday evening.
The first calls came into 911 at 5:07pm, according to Anne-Marie Braswell of Northwest Fire District. Firefighters arrived on scene and found heavy fire involvement in several units and immediately upgraded to a second alarm. Nearly 45 firefighters in 16 units from Tucson, Northwest and Golder Ranch arrived to fight the blaze, which was finally called under control at 6:15pm.
One neighbor said she heard three loud "thumps" and heavy black smoke filled the air, making it extremely difficult to see.
Sixteen apartment units were affected. Displaced residents were helped by the Northwest Fire Community Assistance Team and the Red Cross.
One minor injury was reported.
