Arizona was the 48th state to enter the union. It became a territory in 1848 as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which ended the U.S.-Mexican War.

Arizona's state seal is black and white. It contains a mountain range with the sun rising, a storage reservoir and a dam, irrigated fields and orchards, grazing cattle, a quartz mill and a miner with a pick and shovel.
