Photos: Winners of the Casita Model Plan Competition hosted by city of Tucson
The Casita Model Plan Competition, hosted by the City of Tucson and its Planning and Development Services Department, first began when they were awarded the AARP 2023 Community Challenge grant in June to launch the competition.
Here are the 10 winners.
TUx2 Plan
TUx2 (pronounced "two-by-two") is designed by Johnathan Bean and was inspired by climate-responsive architecture by midcentury architect Arthur T. Brown. See the full design here.
Two Bedroom Casita for Tucson
Designed by Jack Robinson, it features two bedrooms, an open kitchen, a dining and living area, a 338 square-foot car part and 16 solar panels, among other features. See the full design here.
ROOST
Designed by Valerie Lane of the Urban Infill Project, ROOST is available as a studio, one-bedroom or two-bedroom unit encompassing 436, 623 or 768 square-feet, respectively. See the full design here.
Desert Casita: An ADU Design for Life in Tucson
Designed by Kelsi Montgomery and Erick Nickerson of Archilabworks, PLLC., the Desert Casita comes in one- or two-bedroom options and has the potential to have solar installed on the roofs. See the full design here.
Flex Casita
Designed by Alex Vondeling of Opticos Design, the Flex Casita is a 745 square-foot detached ADU that includes and bathroom and two bedrooms, which don't share a wall. See the full design here.
Casita Sama
From designers Annheliza Jordaan and Stefan Mostert, of Studio Sama, Casita Sama is able to convert from one-bedroom, 513-square-feet to a two-bedroom, 643 square-foot casita with no structural demolition required. See the full design here.
Detached Sonoran ADU
Representing the firm Silva & Havens, the Detached Sonoran ADU designed by Logan Havens is full of historic Tucson aspects which is meant to allow for the unit anywhere in the city. See the full design here.

Designed by Alejandro Fernandez of Modulbox, House Saltamontes can be assembled in one day by five people, according to the submitted design. See the full design here
