Life at La Posada

By Don Flood

La Posada is a retirement community, a CCRC, in Green Valley with a population of about 700+ living in apartments, town houses and homes. Upon the onset of this health crisis, the management immediately started creating social distancing to keep this elderly conclave healthy.

Our most prized privilege, our wonderful dining rooms were closed but replaced with 2 meals per day delivered to our door. The dining services team has performed incredibly well.

In addition to the dining changes, a number of services and facilities had to be trimmed to avoid gathering of folks. The health club facility along with its daily exercise classes was shut down. Locally produced TV exercise classes with our familiar instructors were produced and shown daily on the in house television network.

The management has gone all out to make surviving these difficult times as comfortable as possible. We are truly blessed.

Business coach helps for free

Lisa Krikawa and her sales manager Nicole Kilborn working remotely

Lisa Krikawa

By Lisa Krikawa

As a nearly native Tucsonan, U of A graduate, local business owner, employer, business coach and serial entrepreneur, I've started a complimentary, Covid-19 Small Business Support & Mastermind Group, posted on my Facebook page. Participants join me on a private zoom call at 1:00 each day, and we do a round of sharing, then problem solving and masterminding. It's been a source of comfort, community, and brainstorming! I've helped people off the group, one-on-one as well, with their specific business challenges.

I understand how heartbreaking and confusing it is to small business owners to be faced with the potential decimation of their livelihood and business that they've built through blood, sweat and tears.

I have a unique ability to see opportunities and find solutions, and I'm offering my service for free (as I continue to work on my own business to keep it afloat).

Fortunately, my local business was built from an online start, and even though we have a beautiful showroom on Congress that is now closed, we're able to continue working from home to keep the design and sales going!

Skateboarding at home

Mom

By Rex Golos

Even though the YMCA skatepark is closed, I must skateboard everyday. So I jam on my home mini ramp while trying not to play my punk rock too loudly. Things feel normal when I skate. I hope you find your "skate" during this time.

Pluto the dog raises spirits

By Sally G. Reed

Life in quarantine is much better with Pluto the dog in it! I have subscribed to his YouTube channel to get his advice for two-leggeds during this covid19 crisis. Happily there are other dogs joining Pluto in giving advice and lots of smiles. I don't know who Pluto's mom is, but what a great kindness she's providing all of us by making her darling dog and his life insights available at plutoliving.com.

Tucson together: Gifts

Barbara Russek

I step outside to my front patio, in need of a little oasis of calm courtesy of Nature in my new topsy-turvy reality of COVID 19. Nature came through for me.

Buds in the tiny rose garden are about to burst forth. Visible bits of peach, pink and yellow hint at a future kaleidoscope of color.

The intoxicating scent of dainty white blossoms from the orange tree fills the air.

And the generic green plant I bought a few months back at the dollar store surprised and delighted me recently with velvety purple flowers.

My goldfish have emerged from their winter hiding place at the bottom of the pond and are swimming about contentedly in their little fish universe.

The cycle of life continues and brings comfort during this uncertain time.

Spring graced us with an abundance of gifts this year.

I pray for two more gifts before year's end: a prevention and a cure.

Tucson together: A candle for essential workers

Luminaria
Matt Welch

By Matt Welch

I heard someone say on April 1 that we should light a luminaria or candle at 7 p.m. in honor of nurses and medical personnel and first responders and grocery workers. While I think it was only for that day, I've been lighting a luminaria every night and will do so till April 30 in appreciation for those courageous souls.

Tucson together: When space and quiet are hard to find

Eric Denton

By Even Denton

My son, Eric Denton, and his wife, Kehaulani, live in a tiny apartment in Honolulu. Both are working from home. They have a 3 year old daughter, Audrey, who is enjoying “helping.” Yesterday Eric had to participate in a conference call. This was their solution.

I took this picture of the snow man on top of Mount Lemmon. The snow man is practicing social distancing as there are no other snowmen in a six-foot distance. Not only that, the snow man is also wearing a face mask. We wouldn't want it to catch a cold.
