Dale Mannwith the Southern Arizona Rescue Association stands on the edge of bridge number one in Sabino Canyon as flood waters rush by on Thursday, January 21, 2010. Rain water from the Santa Catalina Mountains is draining into the canyon on it way to the valley below. Mann placed rocks on the edge of the water to establish a water level mark and moved it as the water rose. It is used to determine how high and quick the water is rising. Each rise of one inch can indicate a rise of 6-8 inches downstream where the canyon narrows, he said. The canyon remains open but the road past the first bridge is closed. A.E.
