Photos: San Xavier Mission enters phase two of conservation project

  • Mar 25, 2021 Updated Apr 1, 2022

Construction crew members with Means Design and building Corp. build scaffolding around the East Tower of San Xavier del Bac Mission to facilitate phase two of the Patronato San Xavier's conservation project at San Xavier del Bac Mission on March 24, 2021.

During the first phase of the East Tower project, from 2014-2018, important infrastructure work to the foundations and lower walls were completed.

For phase two, the Patronato will remove the last remaining cement-based plaster on the exterior of the East Tower and replace it with a traditional and compatible lime-sand plaster.

“Best preservation practice demands protecting what is there, not attempting to interpret what might have been” said Patronato Executive Director Miles Green.

The project is expected to take a year to be completed.

For more information about the project, visit patronatosanxavier.org/.
