Scurran started coaching at Canyon del Oro High School in 1984. He moved to Sabino High School from 1988-1999, winning three state titles. He founded the Pima College football program, then took over a failing Santa Rita High School program, leading them to the state semifinal and state championship games, and did the same at Catalina Foothills High School.
