Cuddling Reds
Had to share this image of my daughter and our two Rhode Island Reds cuddling.
Tropic Thunder Portillo
This is Tropic Thunder, our black sex link. She is of four girls and she's the queen of the brood. We got her shortly after Valentine's Day as a chick. My wife's son, Adan, named her.

Lucky Rhode Island Red
Isn't she a beauty? I believe she's a Rhode Island Red — please correct me if I'm wrong. This photo was taken during a chicken-raising class at Las Milpitas de Cottonwood community farm near the banks of the Santa Cruz River. These lucky hens get to hunt for bugs in the compost piles. Queen of the coop
This perky gal mugged for the camera during a chicken coop tour at a Tucson elementary school in 2014. Photo by Susan Billings
A deluxe chicken coop
This beautiful but functional chicken coop was photographed during a tour of Manzo Elementary School in 2014. Students there learn to raise chickens, fish and vegetables, plus they learn about composting and water harvesting. Unfortunately, the school's garden and greenhouse were damaged by vandals earlier this year. Photo by Susan Billings
