Dear Deer In My Front Yard
We have many deer follow what seems to be a wildlife trail along the front of our home in Pima Canyon Estates.
What do they eat?
Gila monsters eat newborn rodents, rabbits and hares, ground nesting birds and lizards, and eggs from birds, snakes and tortoises.
A Gila monster may feed only a few times a year, but one good stuffing can last a whole year. Adults are capable of consuming 35 percent of their body weight in a single feeding.

Waiting for mom
Three of four bobcat kittens who visited our patio. The third is in the shadow underneath the one standing while waiting for mom to return so they can nurse. The experience was an intimate look at these beautiful creatures as they make their way in our crowded world. We live in the Magee/La Canada area.

Butterfly in Picture Rocks
My name is Joseph Olexa. This photo was taken in Picture Rocks in my backyard on Tuesday, September 6, 2016. I have some flowering bushes planted to attract them, and I get a variety of butterflies every day. The blue flower they are perched on was bought at the Desert Survivors Nursery on 22nd Street, west of I-10. The butterflies really like it. The plant is about 3 years old now.

These are another two of the five Harris’s hawks that were apparently on a hunting party. Photographed on Moore Road between La Canada and La Cholla just south of the Air Park.

This, I’ve been told, is a Leucistic Red-Tailed Hawk. Somewhat rare, it has a condition that’s similar to albino-ism. According to the Nat’l Park service web site, "Leucism is a genetic condition in which parts or all of an animal's body surface lack cells capable of producing any type of pigment.” I photographed this apparent rarity out on Moore Rd between La Cholla and La Canada on Sept. 8, 2015. I also submitted photos to the Tucson Audubon Society for examination and confirmation.

The butterfly is an American Snout, it sort of has a long nose that resembles a stem of a dead leaf, hence the snout name.

This is my 12 year old kitty Lulu looking at herself in the mirror. She usually waits on the wall by the front door for the mailman. This is the first time she discovered 'another' cat was waiting, too.

A beautiful young buck was eating weeds in my neighbors' driveway across the street. I just happened to look out my window when I saw him. Quickly grabbed my Blackberry and quietly opened the front door. I was about 100 feet snapping away. He just stared at me and then continued with his lunch. My neighborhood is rural in the Tucson Mountains west of Silverbell. We see lots of wildlife but in 30 years this was my first deer sighting. It was awesome.
