PHOENIX — A detention officer of the Pinal County Sheriff's Office has been arrested and indicted on 18 charges including forgery, theft and identity theft.
Sgt. Amado Martinez was taken into custody Friday by investigators of the county Attorney's Office after an investigation into allegations that he was stealing money from Adult Detention Center inmates.
Sheriff Chris Vasquez requested the criminal investigation conducted by the county Attorney's Office after a staff employee at the center discovered the potential theft.
Martinez was initially booked into the Pinal County Detention Facility with a $100,000 secured bond and was placed on administrative leave without pay pending the outcome of an investigation.
