A U.S. Border Patrol agent was killed in a one-vehicle crash Friday evening west of Tucson.
The agent was on duty and driving in a Border Patrol vehicle on Arizona 86 west of Sells at the time of the crash, said Rob Daniels, a spokesman for the agency's Tucson Sector.
The crash occurred at about 5 p.m. and the agent was pronounced dead at the scene at about 6 p.m., Daniels said.
"He died at the scene from massive head and internal injuries," Daniels said.
The agent was alone in the vehicle and no other vehicles were involved, Daniels said. He said the agent was not involved in a pursuit when the crash occurred.
Daniels did not have any information about how the crash occurred.
The agent's name and age were not released pending notification of the agent's relatives. The agent was assigned to the Ajo station.
