A Tucson man police said maintained an illegal mushroom-growing operation in his one-bedroom apartment has been arrested.
Officers investigating a tip from 88-CRIME found chemicals and equipment used to grow psilocybin mushrooms, more than 290 Mason jars of "biomass," or material used to grow mushrooms, while serving a search warrant at the apartment in the 2500 block of East La Madera Drive, Sgt. Chris Widmer, a Tucson police spokesman, said in a news release.
Joshua Bortnick, 41, was arrested Monday on suspicion of manufacturing a dangerous drug and booked into Pima County jail.
He told police he had been growing mushrooms for years, according to an interim complaint filed in Pima County Justice Court.
