Approximately 50 employees were evacuated Wednesday from a business on the far Southeast Side after a 500-gallon propane tank began leaking, an official said.
The tank, which is outside the Offshore Group, 8350 E. Old Vail Road, was secured about an hour later and employees were allowed to re-enter the business.
The company uses the liquid propane to fill the forklifts that are used in the building, said Capt. Tricia Tracy, a Tucson Fire Department spokeswoman.
In addition to the evacuation, a nearby railroad was shut down in both directions for about an hour as a precaution, she said.
The company that owns the tanks — Ferrell Gas — helped to secure the leak, and winds of 22 mph also helped to dissipate the propane, Tracy said.
