A sergeant in the Arizona National Guard who served in Iraq has been sentenced to three years in a Massachusetts prison after pleading guilty to his role in a scheme to move $1 million worth of cocaine from Mexico to Canada.
Gerardo Flores, of Tucson, was sentenced Monday in Salem Superior Court on drug charges.
The 29-year-old Flores was one of three men arrested at a Peabody hotel in December 2011 by Massachusetts police acting on a tip from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The cases against the other two men are pending.
Authorities say they were moving nearly 25 pounds of cocaine.
