The Tucson Police Department has announced it will conduct a sobriety checkpoint this evening.
TPD says it's the first checkpoint conducted within the city of Tucson in several years.
The Police Department says the DUI checkpoint is intended to increase motorists' awareness of the dangers of impaired driving.
Last year, Tucson police say, there were more than 2,600 arrests for DUI. There were also nearly 800 crashes involving drunk drivers. The crashes resulted in 10 deaths and injured more than 500 people.
