Customs and Border Protection officers at the Morley Pedestrian Gate in Nogales arrested an 18-year-old Tucson man on charges that he attempted to smuggle heroin into the United States.
On Feb. 8, the man was sent for further questioning as he crossed the border. A drug dog alerted officers to the presence of drugs and they found two packages of heroin taped to his upper torso, one package stuffed into the rear waistband of his pants, and a fourth attached to his crotch, according to a news release from CBP.
The packages contained nearly 5 pounds of heroin worth nearly $67,000, the agency said.
It was one of several unrelated seizures port officers in Nogales made between Feb. 6 and Feb. 9. The seizures netted 16 pounds of meth, eight pounds of cocaine and 117 pounds of marijuana, CBP said.
In addition to the Tucson man, three others were arrested and facing smuggling charges.
