Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a 17-month-old girl early Friday morning in Ajo, authorities said.
Pima County Sheriff's Ajo District deputies responded to the 400 block of West Arroyo Avenue shortly after midnight, to reports of a child who was not breathing, said department spokesman, Deputy Ryan Inglett.
Deputies performed CPR on the child, until an ambulance arrived and took over life-saving efforts, but the child was pronounced dead at the scene, Inglett said.
Homicide detectives are in the early stages of their investigation, and additional details will be released when available.
