Carson Middle School on the eastside was locked down this morning after a motorist saw a child with a gun at a bus stop across the street from the school.
The lockdown has since been lifted and Tucson police are questioning an eighth-grader about a pellet gun found in the student’s backpack, Cara Rene, communication director for Tucson Unified School District, said.
“There was a passerby going by a public bus stop, a Sun Tran stop, across the street from Carson and that person called in to say they saw a group of students, maybe three, with a gun,” Rene said. The motorist altered the Tucson Police Department, which in turn called the school at 7777 E. Stella Road at South Pantano Road.
Once administrators had locked down the school “a student indicated they thought they knew who the student was” with the gun. School staff searched the suspected student’s back pack and found a pellet gun, Rene said. The student’s parents were called and the student is being questioned by police.
