A man who tried to extort money from the owners of El Guero Canelo restaurants was sentenced to 41 months in federal prison on Tuesday.
Eduardo A. Sabori, 36, will also have to serve three years of supervised release once his prison term is up.
He pleaded guilty in September to interfering with commerce by threats or violence.
Sabori of Tucson admitted in U.S. District Court he’s the one who tried to extort $600,000 from the restaurant owners last summer.
Sabori sent several ransom and demand letters that threatened harm, including death, to the owners, their family and employees.
Sabori was arrested by FBI agents after he retrieved what he thought was a duffel bag containing ransom money left in a trash bin.
At the time of his arrest, Sabori ran a quick-serve restaurant called Mr. Antojo inside Jett’s Wildcat convenience store near the UA campus. He also had a hot-dog cart by the same name.
