A computer lab assistant at Rio Vista Elementary School was arrested Friday for what police deemed an inappropriate online relationship with a teen-age boy.
There was no evidence of any physical contact reported.
Police booked 26-year-old Barbara Bergquist into the Pima County Jail for one count of commercial sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of furnishing harmful items to a minor. An investigation continues, police said.
The arrest followed a report by a mother that her 15-year-old son, a former Rio Vista student, was having inappropriate sexual conversations with Bergquist on his Facebook account.
The mother said she learned that the conversations had been going on since the summer of 2012, and that inappropriate correspondence also occurred via Skype.
Tucson police say parents should monitor their children’s Facebook and other social media accounts. Knowing and monitoring a child’s online friends, connections and conversations is crucial for their safety, authorities say.
