Two people were found dead inside a cave at Coronado National Memorial near Sierra Vista on Wednesday, authorities said.
The bodies of Sheryl Lynn Allen and Walt Gabriel Lemaire, both 23 and from Sierra Vista, were found shot to death inside a tent, according to a Cochise County Sheriff’s Department news release. Investigators suspect murder-suicide.
A Coronado National Park Services ranger learned of the bodies after he stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation, the release said. The people in the vehicle asked the ranger about people camping in Coronado Cave near Montezuma Pass.
The ranger went to the cave and found the two bodies.
Investigators found a small caliber handgun and said it appears Lemaire shot Allen before turning the weapon on himself.
The case is still under investigation.
