A Phoenix tax preparer with an office in Tucson was indicted earlier this week in federal court on charges of filing several tax returns falsely claiming $600,000 in first-time homebuyer credits.
Of the 89 tax returns filed by Jose Jesus Gonzalez for tax year 2008, 84 falsely claimed the credit, including Gonzalez's own tax return, according to the indictment.
Gonzalez owned three Gonzco Insurance and Tax Services offices, including one in Tucson near South 12th Avenue and West Ajo Way.
Gonzalez, 45, is scheduled to be arraigned in U.S. District Court in Tucson on April 19.
