Folks sharpen knowledge of flintknapping
Various types of flint and obsidian (black pieces) weapons as well as copper-headed percussion pieces are displayed during the Colossal Cave Mountain Park workshop. The park, at 16721 E Old Spanish Trail, hosts special events and regular happenings. Go to www.colossalcave.com for details.
Flintknapper Jerry Marcantel, right, leads the workshop. Marcantel first gave a demonstration, then led a hands-on workshop teaching attendees how ancestors turned certain stones into scraping tools and weapons. He demonstrated pressure and percussion techniques on pieces of obsidian and flint stones.
