About two dozen children and their parents turned out last week for "Soaring Saturdays," a weekly program of the Pima Air & Space Museum.
The museum, at 6000 E. Valencia Road, offers kids' activities every Saturday. The first Saturday, "Model Airplane Make 'n Take" focuses on building model airplanes.
This Saturday the program will use hands-on activities to teach kids about rockets. It's for children 8 and older, who should bring along an adult.
Saturday's model-plane session was a collaboration between the museum and Sonoran Desert Model Builders, whose members helped assemble the planes and discuss the project. Each of the children received an SR-71 Blackbird model to put together.
