Tucson's Sonoran Science Academy ranked first, and local Alice Vail Middle School finished fourth, in Saturday's state MathCounts competition held at Cienega High School.
Three students from Sonoran Science Academy will compete in the national competition in Denver, Colo. on May 8-11. They are Richard Spence, Langston Harris and Joshua Sloane. The team's coach is Kadir Bahar of Sonoran Science Academy.
Other Southern Arizona students who placed in the top 25 Saturday are Xiao Wang of Alice Vail Middle School; Chris Xu of Coronado K-8; Trevor Smith of Sierra Vista's Apache Middle School; Michael Rose of Alice Vail Middle School; Peter Bian of Sonoran Science Academy; Sherry Wang of BASIS Tucson School and Andy Shin of Apache Middle School.
