Doolen Middle School, 2400 N. Country Club, has a new solar system to help power the school, making it one of a number of local schools that utilize alternative energy.
As part of the Tucson Solar Schools Project, several Tucson Unified School District schools were selected for systems provided through Tucson Electric Power's SunShare program. Participating schools also receive teacher workshops and classroom presentations to help integrate energy education into the school curriculum.
Doolen's solar power system was dedicated and activated last Wednesday. Other TUSD solar sites include: Cooper Environmental Science Campus, Safford Magnet School, Palo Verde High Magnet School, Hohokam Middle School, Project MORE Alternative High School and Davidson Elementary School.
