More than six dozen Booth-Fickett Magnet School students put their solar cooking skills to the test Tuesday.
The students, in grades three through eight, built 37 solar ovens during the first quarter of classes.
The ovens were used Tuesday to cook their lunches or snacks. The goal of the project was to have students use their natural inquisitiveness and problem-solving skills to design and construct the solar ovens.
They were introduced to concepts about solar energy such as that dark colors absorb sunlight and light colors reflect it, the greenhouse effect and insulation.
