Hundreds of people gathered Saturday night inside the ballroom at the Tucson Jewish Community Center to celebrate, learn and eat different foods presented by five women for the Ethnic Flavors of Israel event.
The women are from Morocco, Iraq, Bukhara, Ethiopia and Uzbekistan.
During the ceremony, they dressed in traditional clothing from their countries and served several of their native dishes.
Each guest received a small booklet telling what it was like for the five women growing up. The booklet included recipes for the food that was served that evening.
The Ethnic Flavors of Israel program began in May and strives to unite and connect Jews in the United States and Israel, and it started by working with a group of women who like to cook.
Their purpose is to share with the Jewish community their stories of growing up in a small, hard-working and ethnically mixed immigrant community from Israel.
