After four weeks working five hours a day, 50 Catalina Foothills Community Schools summer enrichment program students will be more than ready to perform "Smokey Joe's Cafe: The Songs of Lieber and Stoller."
"It's one of the best casts we've had," according to director/choreographer Stacy Johnson. And she should know. Johnson has been with the show ever she since she performed in it as a sixth-grader 12 years ago. She will make her directorial debut this year.
"We're ahead of schedule. It's the first time we've been completely done (learning the choreography) before tech rehearsals."
The cast is made up of sixth- through 12th-grade students, mostly from Catalina Foothills School District.
The show opens at 7 p.m. June 23 at Catalina Foothills High School, 4300 E. Sunrise Drive, with two more evening performances on June 24 and June 28. There will also be three matinee performances at 1 p.m. June 25 through 27. Tickets for the evening shows are $10, and the matinees are $5. Tickets were scheduled to go on sale Wednesday at the high school.
