Flying monkeys, Munchkins, mice, a tin man, a scarecrow, a lion and Dorothy took the stage at Emily Gray Junior High School, 4201 N. Melpomene Way, to perform their version of "The Wizard of Oz."
The performers, Tanque Verde High School students, were part of the school's new theater arts department, whose goal is to offer something to the community and bring families together, according to director Alicia Ruhl's program notes.
Tanque Verde High School classes are conducted at the middle school campus.
"This is tremendously exciting for our kids to able to put on a play of this caliber," said Tanque Verde High School and Emily Gray Junior High School Assistant Principal Gary Reed.
"They are thrilled to perform this play in front of their peers and their community."
