Zoo celebrates International Year of the Bat
Docents from the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum and Tohono Chul Park also join the fun at the Going Batty for Bats special event
A bat skeleton encased in a plastic block is on exhibit at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum table during the Going Batty for Bats special event at the Reid Park Zoo, 1100 S. Randolph Way. Going Batty for Bats, held Saturday, celebrated the International Year of the Bat and featured information tables, interactive activities and crafts for families. Docents from the zoo were joined by docents from the Desert Museum and Tohono Chul Park to help out and provide information to visitors.
Logan Mertes, 6, gets his photograph taken with Jorge Sanchez, who was greeting visitors in his giant bat costume. Although the bat event at the zoo is over, you can still see real, live bats emerge every evening from under the bridges at the River/Campbell and Broadway/Pantano washes at 4280 N. Campbell Ave. and 7671 E. Broadway. Tonight docents from the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum will be at the bridges at 6:45 p.m., as they have been every Thursday this summer. It's the docents' last night at the bridges.
