A team made up mostly of Foothills-area cheerleaders won a citywide competition Sunday, beating out 15 other teams.
That's a "big coup" for the Chargers Mighty Mite team, which didn't place at last year's Tucson City Cheer Competition, said cheer director Kristie Stevens. The Mighty Mites consist of mostly 7- to 9-year-olds, Stevens said. The Chargers Junior Midget team, of 10- to 14-year-olds, placed second at the event.
The Chargers are part of the Tucson Youth Football and Spirit Federation, made up of more than 20 organizations, each with their own football and cheer teams, Stevens said.
