Summer is the perfect time to head out of the heat and into the library.
On Friday, the Dusenberry-River Library, 5605 E. River Road, will offer two children's activities starting with "Wild and Wacky Puppets" from 12:30 to 2 p.m., presented by Gwen Ray's Hanuman Puppet Theatre.
The first 25 fourth- and fifth-graders to arrive will create a puppet and learn how to manipulate it. Call 594-5345 for more information.
Then, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., children can practice reading during the "Read to a Dog" event.
Participating dogs are certified therapy dogs.
"The dog creates a very low-stress environment for children who are learning or having difficulties learning to read," according to the library's website.
