About two dozen Air Force reservists from Tucson are headed to Texas to help with emergency response to Hurricane Ike.
Personnel from the 943rd Rescue Group at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base were due to leave today and Saturday and will be on standby in safe areas in case they are needed to locate and rescue hurricane survivors.
The unit is sending two HH-60 Pave Hawk rescue helicopters and 26 reservists, including pilots, pararescuers and support personnel.
If necessary, the rescuers will help transport victims to safe areas and provide medical aid en route.
Hurricane Ike is expected to wallop hundreds of miles of Texas coastline when it makes landfall late today or early Saturday.
