Pima County Public Fiduciary Anita Royal announced her retirement, effective at the end of October, roughly a week after pleading guilty to driving under the influence.
Royal, who has spent 21 years with the county, was placed on 12 months’ unsupervised probation, ordered to pay a $1,500 fine and received a 10-day jail sentence, with nine days suspended.
The county office manages and protects property and financial assets of mentally ill and other vulnerable people.
Royal made nearly $128,000 annually.
Pima County Supervisors will be asked at their Tuesday meeting to appoint Philip H. Grant to the position. Grant worked as a half-time attorney in the office for 10 years, working 30 hours per week for the past three years. A University of Arizona law school graduate, Grant has 35 years of experience as a practicing attorney. He is also an adjunct faculty member at Pima Community College.
