PHOENIX — Shuttle Endeavour Astronaut Mark Kelly delivered an out of this world message to a U2 concert after Bono dedicated the song “Beautiful Day” to Kelly’s wife, U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.
Bono told the crowd at Seattle’s Quest Field Saturday night, “Imagine a man looking down on us from 200 miles up. Looking down at our beautiful crowded planet. What would he say to us? What is on your mind Commander Kelly?”
Kelly then appeared on a video board. He told the surprised crowd from the International Space Station he was looking forward to coming home.
And Kelly added, “Tell my wife I love her very much.”
Kelly recorded the message during a 16 day, six million mile mission to the International Space Station, the NASA web site says.
Giffords has been recovering at TIRR Memorial Hermann in Houston since late January, when she was transferred there from Tucson in critical condition from a Jan. 8 assassination attempt.
