One of the three races for Legislative District 14 has unofficially been decided.

With no formal opposition in either the August primary or the November general elections, LD14 Sen. Gail Griffin has essentially secured another term in the Legislature.

Griffin, a Republican, was first elected to the seat in 2011 and served in the House prior to her time in the Senate. LD14 encompasses Cochise and Greenlee counties as well as a part of Pima and Graham counties.

For the two seats in the House, incumbent Reps. David Gowan and David Stevens will face a primary challenger from fellow Republican Susan Syfert, a small-business owner in Safford.

In November, Democrat James Burton, a prop and set builder from Sierra Vista, will vie for one of the two seats against the two Republican candidates.
