Legislative District 3 candidates

One race in the Legislative Districts 2 and 3 elections will be decided in the August primary.

LD3 Sen. Olivia Cajero Bedford will face fellow Democrat Sal Baldenegro, a coach and technician with Desert View High School, in the primary. There are no Republicans on the ballot.

In the LD3 House race, Republican Patricia Flores, a licensed private fiduciary, is challenging Democratic incumbents Sally Ann Gonzales and Macario Saldate in November for the two seats.

The LD2 Senate race will see Democratic Sen. Andrea Dalessandro — who was appointed in January to fill the remainder of then-retiring Linda Lopez’s term — face off against former Marine Daniel Estrella, a Republican, in November.

In the House race for the two seats in LD2, Democratic incumbents Demion Clinco and Rosanna Gabaldón are being challenged by Amphitheater High School physics teacher Chris Ackerley.

Olivia Cajero Bedford, Democrat for State Senate

  • Age: 75
  • Employer and position: Current state senator
  • Education: Attended Pima College and the UA
  • Political experience: Current state senator, former state representative
  • Top priority: Restore the public school funding, HURF funding and bring more jobs to Arizona

Sal Baldenegro, Democrat for State Senate

  • Age: 37
  • Employer and position: Media center technician, Desert View High School; boys’ soccer coach, Desert View High School
  • Education: Bachelor of arts, University of Arizona
  • Political experience: Never held elected office
  • Top priorities: Building a sustainable Arizona economy and bringing funding back to our public schools.

Sally Ann Gonzales, Democrat for House of Representatives

Candidate did not respond to requests for information.

Macario Saldate, Democrat for House of Representatives

  • Age: 72
  • Employer and position: Current state representative
  • Education: Bachelor’s in elementary education, University of Arizona; master’s degree in the teaching of the blind and visually impaired,University of Arizona; Ph.D. in special education administration, University of Arizona
  • Political experience: Current state representative, former PCC board member
  • Top priorities: adequate funding of K-12 and higher education

Patricia Flores, Republican for House of Representatives

  • Age: 56
  • Employer and position: Licensed private fiduciary
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration from New Mexico University
  • Political experience: Never held elected office
  • Top priorities: Improve state’s educational and mental-health-care systems
