The Marana Police Department is conducting an auto theft prevention and free vehicle identification number etching event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Safeway plaza at 9100 N. Silverbell Road.
The event is part of the Arizona Automobile Theft Authority's Fifth Annual Auto Theft Prevention and Awareness Week, which ends Saturday.
Arizona's auto theft rate is at its lowest level since the mid-1990s, but Arizona still ranks No. 5 among the states for total vehicle thefts, according to an Arizona Automobile Theft Authority press release.
The group has joined with law enforcement agencies around the state all this week to host events increasing awareness of auto theft and burglary prevention.
