ASHBROOK, George David

ASHBROOK, George David

ASHBROOK, George David

Our hearts are broken as we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather and friend. He died suddenly and unexpectedly January 20, 2019 at the age of 75. He was a general contractor and business owner since moving to Tucson in 1976. He was born to George Van Ness Ashbrook and Susan Adelaide Hays Ashbrook on July 21, 1943 in Columbus, OH. He grew up in Lancaster, OH then attended Wilmington College in Wilmington, OH. Shortly after graduation he met and married his wife, partner, lover and friend, Courtney Jane Ashbrook and they moved to Washington, D.C. where he worked as an insurance broker until he made a trip to visit friends in Tucson and fell in love with the desert, especially the saguaro cactus. Wearing a suit and tie got old because he was a builder at heart, having remodeled their D.C. house. When he came to Tucson he began building commercial buildings and when the construction industry declined he purchased an HVAC business. He was a kind, talented, generous and fun guy and will be missed by many. He was a man of many interests including rebuilding vintage motorcycles, cars and trucks. He had an extensive antique tool and gun collection. He loved history especially about the Civil War and WWI and WWII. He and his wife were fortunate to have traveled extensively. They shared a love of antiques, animals and rock and roll. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Courtney Jane Ashbrook; a daughter, Jenifer Anne Ashbrook; a son, George Van Ness Ashbrook II and three grandchildren. A Celebration of his life party will be held on Sunday, February 17, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Saguaro Buttes, located at 5825 S. Old Spanish Trail. Anyone wishing to join us in honoring him, saying good-byes, sharing memories and having "Wine Thirty" with us is welcome. There will be a basket available and we would love to receive notes telling us about your relationship, memories or stories with and about George. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL.

CIRULI, Ceva Ann (Tucker) 7/29/1944 - 2/1/2019

CIRULI, Ceva Ann (Tucker) 7/29/1944 - 2/1/2019

CIRULI, Ceva Ann (Tucker) 7/29/1944 - 2/1/2019

On Friday, February 1, our loving mother, Nana and friend, Ceva Ciruli closed her eyes in eternal peace after a long battle with cancer. Born Ceva Ann Tucker in Santa Ana, CA to loving parents, Samuel and Ceva Tucker, Ceva and family relocated to Phoenix, Arizona where she graduated from Camelback High School. Ceva pursued her education at the University of Arizona and became a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority where she made life-long friendships. In 1966, Ceva married Charles "Chuck" Ciruli Jr. and by 1967 the young couple relocated to Nogales to jump-start a growing business and begin a family. Sons Charles and Christopher arrived a few years later, filling her heart and time as she created a loving home for her children to thrive. Ceva grew deep roots in Southern Arizona. She led her life modeling a spirit of friendship, both with those around her and in the community. Ceva spent time volunteering as an EMT with the Tubac Fire Department in the late seventies, and in more recent years enjoyed her membership in Santa Cruz County Cowbelles and the Old Mothers Club. Few people are blessed with a natural affinity to connect with others as Ceva did. Those who had the privilege of knowing Ceva, or Nana Ceva, will say she had a way of making everyone feel special. She will be forever remembered as someone who gave warmth and joy in abundance and always put others' needs above her own. Ceva had a beautiful and radiant smile, and a carefree laugh that quickly put you at ease. She enjoyed spending countless hours deep in conversation with her longtime friends and had a penchant for statement jewelry and bold fashion accessories. Her greatest joy, however, was spending time with her grandchildren with a unique dedication to supporting all of their varied interests. Ceva was their number-one cheerleader at sporting events, where she made it a point to show spirit with matching colors and accessories. Ceva is survived by her children, Chuck and wife Kimber and Chris and wife Julie; her loving grandchildren Siena, Sammy, Frankie, Parker and Ivy; her brother, Richard Tucker; nephew, Scott Tucker and nieces, Tracey Tucker Aslin and Morgan Tucker; her aunt, Shirley and the Layton family and former husband, Chuck Ciruli. She is preceded in death and welcomed in heaven by her parents, Samuel and Ceva Tucker and her uncle, Bud Layton. A memorial service was held on Friday, February 8, 2019 at Valley Presbyterian Church in Green Valley, AZ, followed by a private family farewell at Greenwood Memorial in Phoenix. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Cruz County. The family would also like to thank friends and family for their outpouring of support, with special thanks to Dr. Donald Brooks and his staff for their kind and unwavering dedication. Mom, Nana, friend . . . you remain in our hearts until we meet again. My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life - Psalm 119:50

ROESKE, Rodney H. 12/17/1932 - 1/9/2019

Rod Roeske, who found home in the desert Southwest and its rivers for the past 58 years, died at age 86 from pneumonia following a hip fracture in late December 2018. He was born in Valders, Wis., third of four children to Ed and Arline Roeske. He grew up in Wayside, a very small German community near Green Bay with four bars, two churches and a bowling alley. His love for baseball, polka music, canoeing, and good home-cooked food came from those roots. He had an adventurous spirit, and after graduating from De Pere High School (1950) he took time at University of Wisconsin Madison to explore liberal arts as well as a degree in Geological Engineering. His love of reading and art lasted throughout his life. He served in Korea (post-war) as a 2nd Lt. in the Army for two years after college. He started his career in hydrology in the U.S. Geological Survey in 1958, first in Columbus, Ohio and then in Tucson starting in 1962. His study of Arizona surface water allowed him to explore both local (Rillito) and distant (Colorado) rivers, and he had many fine adventures on them. Known for his great sense of humor and straight-forward manner he enjoyed a diverse group of friends he met through work, baseball, and beyond. He continued to explore, taking a 2-year leave to work for the World Meteorogical Organization in Malawi in the late 1970s. He retired from the USGS in 1989, and then helped friends with their field work and traveled extensively until a serious stroke in 1999. The stroke slowed his stride and his speech but not his intellect. He worked hard to recover and did to the extent that he lived independently in his home, traveled abroad through the Road Scholar program and locally with friends, and continued to make new friends. The Aphasia Center of Tucson played a major role in his recovery, reinforcing his positive outlook and giving him tools to live his life on his terms. He is survived by his brother, Robert Roeske of Madison, WI; his niece, Sarah Roeske (spouse Karl Mertz) of Newcastle, CA and numerous friends. Charitable gifts to the Friends of Aphasia (https://friendsofaphasia.com) and/or the Community Food bank of southern Arizona (https://www.communityfoodbank.org) in his memory would be appreciated.
