Jane Bailey

Jane Bailey

Hibner Bailey, Jane

Janet Ruth Williamson Mason Hibner Bailey died January 31, 2022, just shy of her 99th birthday. To her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Jane embodied strength, beauty, poise, loyalty, and love. At Jane's home, you could always expect the best of everything: endless hugs and kisses, guidance, stories, laughs and giggles, cookies, pies and wonderful memories. She will be greatly missed.

Jane was born in Montclair, N.J. on February 1, 1923 to Laura and Stanley Williamson. An adventurer at heart, Stanley soon moved his young family out west settling in Tucson. Jane attended Tucson schools from Kindergarten at Sam Hughes Elementary, Mansfeld Junior High, and Tucson High where she made friendships that lasted a lifetime. After graduating high school in 1940, she attended the University of Arizona and was affiliated with Kappa Alpha Theta. Jane earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education in 1944 and taught school for a short time. Jane then ventured to California where she met and married Elmer Alfred Mason. They shared a wonderful life there, purchasing a home in Burbank and rejoicing in their four children. Widowed in 1957, Jane returned to Tucson to raise the children near family and friends.

Jane stayed busy providing her children a wonderful life. In her free time, she enjoyed volunteer work, first as a member of T.M.C. Auxiliary. She then joined St. Michael and All Angels Altar Guild, Assistance League of Tucson, and later, Meals on Wheels. She also served on the Kappa Alpha Theta Corporation Board for many years.

In 1970, Jane married Clayton Hibner, a local dentist. In their 20 years together, they enjoyed gardening, playing tennis and spending time with family. In 1993, Jane married James Bailey, an adventure seeker and private pilot. In their five years together, they traveled the world, exploring Europe, Australia and the Hawaiian Islands among other places. Widowed three times in total, Jane persevered and vowed to accept the things she could not change.

A long-time member of Tucson Country Club, Tucson Desert Club, and Patio Garden Club, Jane shared her father's belief that Tucson was "God's Country" and always enjoyed her life here. She loved dancing, tennis and bridge, but most of all, she loved to assemble her large family for holiday festivities and her chocolate cream pie.

Jane is survived by her children, Stephen (Aida) Mason, Michael (Ann) Mason, Pamela (Ted) Mason, and J. Scott (Barbara) Mason, as well as her stepchildren, Richard (Tavi) Hibner, Catherine (David) Boscacci, Ann (Bill) Fait, James (Vikki) Bailey, and Virginia (Fred) Arbogast, and nieces and nephew, Peter (Danna) Williamson, Susan Watson, and Sallie Taylor. She is also survived by the grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were such a special part of her life.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 11, 2022 at Evergreen Cemetery, 3015 N. Oracle Road, Tucson.

Randee Dickey

Randee Dickey

Dickey, Randee Mur

Randee came into the world on February 14, 1949. It was fitting that she was born on Valentine's Day, considering all the love and care she gave throughout her almost-73 years, to family, friends, and others who came into her orbit.

Her beloved parents, Albert and Florence Mur, relocated the family from Pennsylvania to Tucson, AZ in 1960. Randee and her younger sister, Leslie, were also blessed to have their much loved grandmother, Sarah Rubenstein, living with them.

Randee attended Doolan Junior High and graduated from Rincon High School in 1966. She attended the University of Arizona, where she earned her BA in 1970, and M.Ed in 1972. She taught at Cholla High School for 10 years.

In 1982, Randee accepted an opportunity with IBM Corporation to join their Human Resources organization, at their Tucson-based product development lab and manufacturing facility. Several years later, she met her future life partner, Larry Dickey; they were married in Tucson, on June 15, 1990. They transferred with IBM to the Washington, DC area, and made their home first in Bethesda, and later in Gaithersburg, MD. When Randee's division was acquired by Lockheed Martin, she continued her successful leadership career there, until her retirement in 2010.

While Randee had loved her time in the DC area, she was ecstatic to return to her family and friends in Tucson. She made her home there with Larry for the next 11 years, where she enjoyed walking in the desert, cooking, gardening, and cultural activities. She also greatly enjoyed her continued travels with Larry across the US, Europe, Central America, and South America.

In 'retirement,' Randee brought her energy and passion to several causes and organizations as a volunteer. Her most fulfilling work was with Tucson Unified School District's Reading Seed Program. With compassion, creativity, determination, and joy, she helped countless children improve their vocabulary and reading skills - and in turn, their self-confidence and pride.

With grace and courage, Randee battled a rare and deadly form of cancer, Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP), starting at age 32. After receiving treatments for several recurrences, she went into remission for 14 years, albeit with permanent complications from her extensive surgeries. Randee adapted, and didn't allow the complications to prevent her from living a full and active life.

Sadly, the cancer returned in late 2019. Despite the risks of another major surgery, Randee made the decision to proceed. The complications took a much greater toll on her body this time, but her optimism and will to live remained strong. She was determined to last at least until the birth of her grandniece, Mia Faye, in January 2021. Randee survived another year, during which she took delight in getting to know Mia. She was so grateful for that, as she was for the extra time she had with her husband and family.

Randee joined the ranks of the angels on January 25, 2022. She may have left us a few weeks shy of Valentine's Day, but her spirit of love and kindness will stay with us. Randee will be missed by her loving husband, Larry; daughter, Janet Mellinger (Brad); sister, Leslie Tinker; nephew, Chas Tinker (Lauren); grandniece, Mia Faye Tinker; grandchildren: David Chambers, Brad Haymaker (Shana), Taylor Haymaker (Brittany), and Levi Haymaker (Chelsea); many cousins, and countless friends. She was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Roger Tinker.

Arrangements are being handled by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL. A celebration of life will be scheduled at the convenience of the family. For those who wish, donations can be made in Randee's honor to any of the following:

Elinor Hallowell

Elinor Hallowell

Hallowell, Elinor

Elinor Lamont (Anderson-Bell) Hallowell, of Tucson, AZ and North Haven, ME, died January 29, 2022 at home in Tucson at the age of 86. When asked "what do you do?" Elinor would smile and reply with pride: "I DO friends and family." In reality, she did far more. The mission statement of her favorite botanical garden could easily have been Elinor's own: "to enrich people's lives by connecting them with the wonders of nature, art and culture . . and inspire wise stewardship of the natural world."

Elinor was the daughter of Elinor and Thomas Lamont, Partner at JP Morgan and the granddaughter of Florence and Thomas Lamont, Sr. Partner at JP Morgan. Elinor, raised in Manhattan and Syosset, attended the Brearly School and graduated from Milton Academy in 1953 and Barnard College in 1958. She studied acting in Boston and thrilled audiences at the Cambridge Revels and North Haven community theater, and toured Europe with the North Shore Chorus.

Elinor summered on North Haven Island in Maine. She loved her North Haven friends, walks, and entertaining: from political fundraisers to the end of season sailing tea. Elinor's beautiful voice will be missed ringing out from her pew by the organ at the North Haven Episcopal Village Church.

Elinor raised her children, Fiona and Andrew, in Cambridge, MA with her first husband Andrew Anderson-Bell, an avid yachtsman and supporter of Plimouth Plantation and Outward Bound's Hurricane Island. Elinor's second marriage, to Gerry Hallowell a fellow Miltonian, brought her to Tucson in 1995. She adopted the Southwest with vigor, finding great birding, serving as President of the Friends of the UofA Libraries, and collecting Native American patriotic art. Elinor's life-long love of gardens led her to become a docent at the Tohono Chul botanical center. Elinor designed gardens at each of her homes to honor their settings and climates. Her El Encanto Tucson garden was awarded the AZ Excellence in Landscaping Award.

Elinor's witty conversation was informed by deep and broad reading. To be her dinner partner was to feel respected, informed, and delighted. This skill made the final years of her life especially cruel, as progressing dementia gradually robbed her of all speech.

Elinor is survived by her husband, Roger "Gerry" H. Hallowell Jr. of Tucson; her children, Fiona Anderson-Bell of North Haven, ME, and Andrew and Lexanne Anderson-Bell of Ipswich, MA and North Haven ME; grandchildren, Annabell and Willem Hurd; stepchildren, Roger H. and Benedicte Hallowell III, Rosa Hallowell and Mark Stein, Charles Hallowell and Flora Grubb, and Nicholas Hallowell and Audrey Knox; as well as seven step-grandchildren, Penrose, Rory, Elias, Mathilda and Felix Hallowell and Elizah and Lucia Stein. Sandy, her Portuguese waterdog, will continue to guard her bedside with pride.

Elinor was predeceased by three brothers, Thomas Lamont, lost in WW II; Time Magazine writer Lansing Lamont; and HUD official Ted Lamont. Extraordinary aides from Bayada cared for Elinor in her final chapter. Their compassion ensured her dignity with grace and good humor.

Elinor will be honored at gatherings in Tucson in February and on North Haven Island this summer. ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel (Tucson) will post details as they become available. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Nature Conservancy (Nature.org) or Tohona Chul (Tohonachul.org).

William Ingram

William Ingram

Ingram, William

William "Bill" A. Ingram passed peacefully on January 27, 2022. Bill was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Flora Ingram. He is survived by two sons and their wives, Edward Ingram (Lorena) and William Ingram (Laura); his two brothers, Donald and Michael; three grandchildren, Edward Aaron, William Alan and Angelica Nancy; his dear friend and travel companion, Lynn Edwards and the Edwards family; and many close friends, all of whom he loved very much.

Born on September 12, 1939, in New York City, Bill was educated at Yale University and the University of New Hampshire and received his law degree from Boston College Law School. Bill and Flora raised their family in New England while Bill practiced law. They moved to Arizona in the early 90's to be closer to their sons and to get away from the cold winters. Bill traded his three-piece suits for cowboy boots and a horse. He also discovered a new passion in Tucson with the Teach For Friendship Foundation (TFF), a non-profit that he helped establish and led so ably. TFF enriched the lives of so many through the teaching of conversational English abroad, and it enabled Bill to travel and to touch the lives of so many people that shared the same dreams and values as he did. In 2006, Bill was honored to receive the Bell Chime award by the Governor of Hubei Province for his contributions to education and economic growth. Bill will forever be remembered for his kindness, generosity, thoughtful demeanor, his love of reading and his enthusiasm for the arts. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to their favorite charity in Bill's name. He loved giving to Therapeutic Riding of Tucson (TROT).

Kathryn Lance

Kathryn Lance

Lance, Kathryn

Kathryn (KL) Lance passed away January 29, 2022, she was born in the year of the gray pennies and was fortunate to spend most of her childhood in Tucson. From the time she could hold a pencil she wanted to be a writer, and much of her remaining life was devoted to eclectic reading and professional writing.

Her first book, Running for Health and Beauty (1977), the first guide to running for women, sold half a million copies, and was often credited with helping to start the running movement.

Over the course of KL's career, she published sixty books. Her favorites were the three books in The Pandora's Trilogy, a science fiction adventure that she felt encapsulated everything she had ever believed or cared about. The following quote from a review in Analog Science Fiction and Fact, a major science fiction publication, was the culmination of all she had worked for in her many years as a writer.

"Kathryn Lance paints beautiful word-pictures and has a fantastic sense for emotional truth. This is one trilogy that starts good and gets better with each book; Pandora's Promise (the third book) is the best."

In addition to writing, KL was passionate about the natural world, and expressed that love through outdoor activities, including several years as a volunteer at Tohono Chul and the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. Sadly, KL outlived her parents, younger brother and sister, and her husband, Stuart "Rocko" Herzog. At home, her love was devoted to a myriad of real-life and online friends, and her beloved cats, Tasha and Shala.

Memorial donations may be made to Tohono Chul, Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum or any organization that honors and cares for animals or people.

After several weeks of travels when on the way home, they had to stop at friends to borrow gas money to make it the rest of the way to Minneapolis. This enjoyment of travel and exploring continued throughout their lives together. Mike, a former Marine, joined the Air Force in 1950 and for the two of them moving from base to base every year or two was an exciting adventure and also for the whole family, which now included two kids and a dog. Bonnie worked for Romney Produce and the Tucson Public Schools and after retiring the two traveled the country in their RV exploring and visiting friends and relatives and with Mike golfing and Bonnie doing her many arts and crafts. Bonnie is survived by two children, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Good-by to all her friends and workers at Fellowship Square and thanks for all the help and kindness from everyone at Peppi's House. She will join Mike once again as she is interred at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Marana.
