William Berry

William Berry

BERRY, William

79, passed away June 25, 2021 in Tucson, AZ, at Cornerstone Specialty Hospital.

He was predeceased by father, C.W. Berry; mother, Elsie Abernathy; stepfather, C.F. Abernathy and brother, John Berry.

Bill's dry, wry commentary on life was "No good deed shall go unpunished." It belied a lifelong devotion to his immediate and extended family, his country, his workplace and the welfare of others.

Bill retired from long careers in the US Navy and then Raytheon to live out his dream: days filled with reading, travel, telling tall tales and sharing bad jokes, good eating and napping in a big recliner chair with a lap full of adoring rescued dogs.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Kathryn; her daughter and family, sister-in-law, Tha Berry and family, a host of cherished cousins and a lifetime of friends.

Many thanks to the multi-disciplinary care teams at Northwest Medical Center, Banner UMC North, Cornerstone Specialty Hospital, Tucson Medical Center, and Foothills Rehabilitation Center.

Services, including inurnment at Arizona Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Marana AZ, will be held at a later date.

Donations in memory of William Berry are suggested to: Friends of PACC or your local animal shelter; The Salvation Army or your local library. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel.

Fair winds and following seas, dear man.

Helen Houghton

Helen Houghton

HOUGHTON, Helen M.

June 6, 1922 - July 10, 2021

Helen was welcomed into Heaven on Saturday July 10, 2021. She had just celebrated her 99th birthday doing her favorite things: attending services at El Camino Baptist Church where she was a member for over 40 years, having brunch at Millie's Pancake Haus then dinner at PF Chang's. She was our little energizer bunny.

She was born in West Virginia. After business school she worked in retail and for a local oil and gas firm. She married her classmate Homer whose career was a pilot and missile commander in the USAF. They shared many travel adventures which eventually brought them to Tucson in '67 and he retired from DMAFB in '73.

Helen was the adored mother of Diane, Linda (Bill) and Julie; also grandmother to Jennifer (Dave), Sera and Sam; plus six great-grandchildren.

She devoted her life to volunteer work and was active in many organizations including Officer's Wives Club, Red Cross, Toastmistress, Girl Scouts, Church and the Hermitage Cat Shelter. Gracious and impeccable are "purrfect" words to describe this beautiful lady. She touched so many lives with her cards and notes…never missing an opportunity to cheer a friend. Atria Campana was her home for the last eight years where she enjoyed life with her kitty Ms. Pearl.

A celebration of her life to be held later. She will be buried in West Virginia next to her husband. Remembrances may be made to El Camino Baptist Church, 7777 E. Speedway, Tucson 85710 or The Hermitage Cat Shelter, PO Box 13508, Tucson 85732. Arrangements by EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY.

Barbara Voss

Barbara Voss

VOSS, Barbara Sue

Generous. Fierce. Loving.

These three words have and always will be used to describe Barbara Sue Voss.

Sue, 82, passed away May 6, 2021. She was born in Slab Fork, West Virginia on June 21, 1938, raised in Crab Orchard, WV and lived in Tucson, Arizona since 1962.

With the fierceness of a lioness, Sue loved her daughters more than anyone, often saying "I love you so hard" to them. She had a long career with the phone company, which began in 1969 with Mountain States Telephone, where she helped break the gender gap by working as a "frame-man." Sue was known for her giving spirit and desire to make a difference. She made stockings and filled them to send to deployed military; she organized a snack station while working at the phone company to earn money to support families at Christmas and she spent more than 2,000 hours volunteering at Northwest Hospital. Later, she handed out candy to caregivers and residents at her assisted living facility to bring them cheer. There is a lifetime of stories like these about Sue, and she is greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Ralph and Marcella Cook and her daughter, Elizabeth Carol Meadows. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Meadows Botkin (Ken) and fur-baby Molly. Sue's Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 28, 2021. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel.
