Joan Cozzetti

COZZETTI, Joan A.

With heavy hearts we would like to share the passing of Joan A. Cozzetti on February 25, 2021. She died peacefully after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

Born in Pueblo Colorado to Frances and Anthony Zobec. She later became a sister to Mary Beth Zobec (Gold). She was a wonderful wife to Don Cozzetti, her high school sweetheart, an amazing mother and mother-in-law to Dennis (Maggie), Teresa, Evan (Eveline) and Lisa (Don). She cherished being a grandmother to Jessica, Dominic, Chelsea and Alexis and a great grandma to Mason (angel in heaven), Madison and Jamison. She is survived by her cousin Ann Marie Zaletal who through the years has maintained the news from Pueblo with Joanie.

We will miss her terribly but happy to know she is in eternal peace.

Lisa O'hara

O'HARA, Lisa Marie

12/29/1966 - 2/25/2021

We are saddened to announce the death of Lisa Marie O'Hara at the young age of 54. Lisa was born in Chicago and remained a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan staying true to her mid-western roots. She migrated to Tucson at a young age and loved her desert community. Hers was a life exemplified by service to others. She was a firefighter/paramedic with DAFF and Mt. Lemmon fire. Lisa worked at the Tucson Heart Hospital and Carondelet network. First at St. Josephs and finally in the ER at St. Mary's. Besides being a first-class, dedicated Medic, Lisa was known by those who took the time to get to know her as fun-loving, with a big heart, who took life's setbacks in stride. She bravely beat cancer; even worked during chemo. We will celebrate this hard-working Medic's life with a gathering at St. Mary's and St. Joe's following St. Patrick's Day to honor her Irish heritage of which she was most proud. At some point, those closest to her will knock back a shot of her favorite whiskey which surely would make her smile. Lisa will be sorely missed by her friends and family. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL.

Fred Pace

Fred Pace

PACE, Fred R.

88, a member of Arizona's pioneer W.W. Pace family, passed away at his home in Tucson on January 23, 2021. Fred was born the middle child to parents, W. Roy and Mary Pace in Lee Summit, Missouri in 1932. He is survived by his wife, Gail Pace; son, Alan Pace; daughter, Jodi Pace; grandchildren, Mark and Adam Pace; sister, Martha Gresham, and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. After leaving the Air Force he went on to graduate in 1962 from the first graduating class of the University of Arizona's new Department of Architecture. While he would go on to be a commercial contractor, he would spend a lifetime using his skills as an architect to design solutions and solve problems he saw in everyday life for anyone who would ask.

In the early 1970's Fred took ownership of Lynch Engineering and Construction which became Pace Construction. Over his 40-year career he built hospitals, schools, banks, fire stations, telescopes, a 5-mile-long mining conveyor belt, along with many other projects. His passion for building was evident to anyone who worked with him.

Fred spent his lifetime giving back to the community of Southern Arizona that he felt had given him so much. He supported multiple scholarships, loved working with his many friends at the Amerind Foundation, served on the board of the Mountain Oyster Club, and supported a multitude of other foundations and causes. He will be remembered for always having a joke to share.

He took great pride and joy in his grandsons, taking them on multiple adventures around Arizona as well as giving them classes in his workshop.

It cannot be overstated how much Fred was loved, respected, and admired by his friends. He was always the first one to offer a helping hand or anything else someone needed.

A small graveside service was held at East Lawn Palms Cemetery on Tuesday, February 2, 2021. Arrangements made by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel. A celebration of Fred's life will be held when it is again safe to meet.

Matthew Silvers

Matthew Silvers

SILVERS, Matthew Michael

The sign on the Rialto Theatre marquee read: "Rest in Peace Matt (Spry) Silvers. A Legend in Tucson. A Human Being That Was Given to Fly." Matthew's passing on February 27, 2021 is mourned by his family and many friends in Tucson, the Phoenix area, and beyond. He was a COVID survivor, who died of "heart failure."

Matthew was born at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. on October 31,1974 to Kathleen Mulcahy Silvers and Philip J. Silvers. His family moved to Tucson in 1978, and Matthew attended elementary and middle schools in the Catalina Foothills School District. He graduated from Amphitheater High School in 1992 where he lettered in soccer and baseball. At Northern Arizona University, he majored in Communication, worked in local radio, and played ice hockey, graduating in 1997.

Matthew's professional career began at KLPX/KFMA radio in Tucson where he was Program Director and an on-air radio personality known as "Matt Spry." He was responsible for the twice-a-year rock festivals, negotiating contracts with top bands and drawing crowds of 28,000. He also played guitar for the KFMA Band's opening for major attractions. He then moved to marketing at Desert Diamond Casinos in Sahuarita/Tucson, and later to Desert Diamond Casino West Valley in Glendale AZ, where he became the IT Engineer.

In his youth, Matthew was a delightful child, savoring his weekends at his Mt Lemmon cabin, hiking with his dog Amiga, becoming an avid skier/snowboarder and fisherman. He captained his city-championship soccer team for his age group; and was a batboy, scoreboard operator, and "Tuffy the Toro" mascot for the Tucson Toros. He was a Rotary Youth Exchange student to Valencia, Spain, becoming fluent in Spanish and a paella afficionado. Favorites that lasted his lifetime were the MN Vikings and Twins, Washington Capitals, a love of the outdoors, cooking, especially seafood, and music—featuring guitar which he taught himself to play. He was a faithful son and brother, calling his parents and sister regularly to express his love.

Matthew is survived by his parents, Kathleen Silvers and Philip Silvers; his sister, Julie E. Silvers; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins; and countless friends. Matthew's immediate family observed a private celebration of his life. His music colleagues are planning a Saturday, March 20, 2021 commemoration. A public memorial with extended family and friends will be announced at a later date.

Barbara Todd

Barbara Todd

TODD, Barbara B.

age 87, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away peacefully at home with family on Friday March 5, 2021. She was comforted by her CDs of Sarah Vaughan in the carousel, musings of Judi Dench on her bookshelf, and artwork of mostly music and apples.

She was born Barbara Lois Beaird in Brooklyn, New York in 1933. She often told fun stories like the time when she was four when she walked a few Brooklyn blocks by herself to the butcher shop. When she returned home with some liver for her mom to prepare for lunch, Grace, her mom, asked her how she managed that. Little Barbara matter-of-factly said, "I told 'em to put it on our tab!" She moved with her family to Valhalla at age five, made lifelong friends, graduated from White Plains HS, and attended Plattsburgh State Teachers College in upstate New York. She married and relocated to Tucson in 1955 where she discovered her very own Hundred Acre Woods full of Desert Doves, Cow Belles, and rose gardens. She resided in Tucson until 2020.

She loved the pace of baseball and followed the NY/SF Giants, often using sayings like "Say hey," "Let's play two," and "Look in your glove and it might be there." She enjoyed a friendly game of golf with the Niners and way back in the day, a motley game of bridge with the crew. But truth be told, Bar's superpower was her extra special dedication to children. She did everything she could to help her own and others. Also known as Mother Todd, Aunt Bar, Great Aunt Arizona, Grammy Oke, Christopher Robin, and Barb the Nanny, she provided love and guidance, but never held back her opinion if she thought it would make a difference. And it usually did.

Barbara is survived by children, John (Sheryl Robertson) of Scottsdale, Briggs (Patty) of Tucson, and Joan (Ticia Murphy) of San Diego; grandchildren, Daniel, Kate, Jessica (Jonathan Wingate), Jordan Dale (Nick), Jillian, and Julia; her brothers, Robert L. Beaird Jr. (Janet) of Brewster, NY and Lou L. Beaird (Loretta) of Cape Coral, FL; cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by parents Robert L. and Grace E. (Baum) Beaird; sister, Grace (Jiggy) Ferris; daughter, Donna, and many of her dearest friends.

"Friendship," said Christopher Robin, "is a very comforting thing to have." CR, how lucky are we to have something that makes saying farewell so hard, but we are comforted knowing you are in good company. And yes, we know... "God gave you a brain, use it." and "Always read the instructions first."
