Bayard Auchincloss

Bayard Auchincloss

AUCHINCLOSS, Bayard Cutting Jr.

passed away on August 8, 2019 surrounded by family at Banner Hospital in Tucson, Arizona after a fall that caused a stroke. He was 67 years old. Bayard was a man of incredible passions and enthusiasms. He was loving, intelligent, erudite, witty, charming, funny, generous and complex. He had the soul of an artist and his canvas was his life, family and friends. It began in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1952.Bayard was raised in the mountains of Colorado and the California Coast. As a youth he embraced everything eccentric including the culture of the 60s which was the beginning of his lifelong love affair with art, movies and music. He was a beautiful skier. In his early 20s, Bayard became the proprietor of the Woodrose Market and Deli in Winter Park, Colorado. In his mid-20s, he decided he wanted to sail around the world. Unfortunately, he had never sailed a boat. Bayard sold the market, attended the Offshore Sailing School in Maine, learned celestial navigation and bought a 42-foot sailboat. He then spent 4 years sailing the exquisite islands of the South Pacific with his wife Julia and their two cats. Bayard sold the boat in Australia and purchased a home on Lucinda Lane in Santa Barbara, California. He then attacked the golf course, the weight room and the stock market. In the crash of 1987, the stock market attacked him back. He moved to Tucson, Arizona where he became a very successful realtor. He owned several lovely homes and for many years, lived the life of his dreams. He hiked in the mountains, watched birds, whittled his golf handicap down to a two and met many new friends who will never forget him. He then met his second wife Rose along with his two stepsons Ron and Clay and retired in the beautiful high desert. Bayard was a person who dearly loved to love dearly. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the charitable organizations Bayard personally worked with and supported: Casa de La Luz Hospice; The Loft Nonprofit Cinema; Long Realty Cares Foundation; The Rillito Park Foundation and The Nature Conservancy. Arrangements by ANGEL VALLEY FUNERAL HOME.

Barbara Burke

Barbara Burke

BURKE, Barbara Ann

of Phoenix, AZ passed away on September 11, 2019 after a long and full life. Barbara was born in Oak Park, Illinois to Grayce and George Boyle. She spent her younger years in the California bay area and attended UC Santa Barbara and UC Berkeley where she was a history major until she left school to care for her terminally ill mother. In 1963, Barbara met and married Jim Burke, who still claims that she was the most beautiful and special woman he knew, both inside and out. They moved to Tucson in 1967 so that Jim could pursue his doctorate in physics at the University of Arizona.

Barbara was highly skilled in everything she did - baking bread, restoring fine antique furniture, building brick pathways and tending her many plants. She was proud of the beautiful home she created. Additionally, Barbara was president of the University of Arizona Faculty Women's Club in 2003, and one of her favorite social occupations was hosting and playing bridge with other members.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Dr. James J. Burke, Jr.; her four children, Robert (Juanita), Jane, and Richard Kingston and Vanessa Burke Lee (Brian); nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, as well as her brother, Kenneth Boyle of Paradise, CA. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her. At her request, there will be no formal services.

Irvin Finical

Irvin Finical

FINICAL, Irvin E.

We are heartbroken to announce that the beloved patriarch of our family, Irvin Finical, left us August 29, 2019, just four months after the passing of his wife of 63 years, Jeane Finical. He was born on June 8, 1926 in Lakewood (Cleveland), Ohio to Thomas Nelson Finical and Bernice Mincks Finical, the second of three sons. At age four, he moved to Cranford, New Jersey, and then lived in Montreal for six years, before graduating high school in Cranford in 1944. Irv was an outstanding athlete, and especially loved playing ice hockey. Immediately after high school he enlisted in the US Navy, and was initially sent to Le Havre, France and then to the Pacific. After WW II, he attended Syracuse University for two years, and transferred to the University of Washington School of Architecture. After graduation, he returned to Okinawa, where as a young architect he participated in the post war reconstruction. Irv met the love of his life, Jeane Griffin, in early 1955 in Sun Valley where he was a ski patrol. They married on October 1, 1955, and settled in Tucson, where Irv was employed with Place & Place Architects. Their union produced four children: Scott Finical (Sarah Strunk), Leslie Finical Jaubert, Eric Finical (Sally), and Douglas "Fini" Finical, as well as six grandchildren: Michael, Mark, and Christian Jaubert, Chelsea and William Finical, and Skyler Finical. He became a very successful commercial architect, starting Finical and Dombrowski, Architects and Engineers, in 1962. He created the IEF Group Architects/Planners in 1984, taking a young, talented staff of designers from F&D, most notably Klindt Breckenridge, a loyal colleague who is carrying on Irv's architectural legacy with The Breckenridge Group. As a fledgling architect, Irv designed The First Federal Tower in Phoenix, which was the tallest building in AZ for four years. He also designed the 1976 U of A stadium addition, schools, hospitals, civic buildings, post offices, fire stations, jails, two town halls, and an observatory in Chile. He served as "El Jefe" on the Tucson Caballeros, on the AZ Board of Technical Registration, and was a member of the fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta. In retirement he enjoyed traveling the world with his wife. He is survived by his older brother, Tom, and nephew, T. Carson, and all of his children and grandchildren. Irv was our hero, a beloved father and grandfather, and his kind, patient way will be desperately missed. There will be a private celebration only, in accordance with his wishes. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.
