ALLEN, Louis F.

12/13/1934 - 6/28/2021

Louis F. Allen passed away on June 28, 2021 in Tucson.

Originally from Evansville, IL Lou came to Tucson as a teenager. After graduating Tucson High School and University of Arizona, Louis enjoyed working 43 years for the City of Tucson Planning and Transportation Department. He took pride having served in Korea and being part of the rebuilding process.

He enjoyed a lifelong love of bicycling and rode his bike to work for most of his career. He would often ride the loop at Saguarro NP East on the weekends.

His biggest joy was marrying the love of his life, Jeane, with whom he enjoyed every days joys, big or small until his passing.

He is survived by his wife, Jeane Stevens; daughters, Lori and Rena and their families, nieces and nephews and many friends.

A celebration of his life will be held at Catalina United Methodist Church, 2700 E. Speedway Blvd., Tucson, AZ 85716 on Saturday, August 7, 2021, 1:00 p.m.

ASHFORD, Rosetta Joyce

age 81, of Oracle, AZ, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 20, 2021. Rosetta was born on August 13, 1939 in Tayor, Texas.

Preceded in death by her father, Raymond Reeves; mother, Nola and brother, Larry.

Survived by her loving husband of more than 50 years, Fred Ashford; her children, Don, Linda, Richard; her stepchildren, Freddie, Diana and David; grandchildren, Brad, Sue, Elisha, Chelsie, Stacy, many great-grandchildren, her sister, Anna and her brother, Raymond.

She was a bold strong woman with adventure in her heart. She and her husband Fred traveled all over the world together, throughout the US, and lived several wonderful years overseas in Indonesia. She created a home rich in memories and will be very missed. Rosetta asked friends celebrate her life with an "Irish Party" at a later date. Arrangements by NATIONAL CREMATION SOCIETY.

BROSSART, Lois Borneman

It is with great sadness that our family announces the death of our loving and devoted mother, Lois Brossart on June 4, 2021. Mom was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on January 15, 1930, and she became the heart and soul of our family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Dorothy Borneman; her brother, Sonny Borneman, and her husband of 50 years, Raymond J. Brossart. She is survived by five children who loved her dearly, Susan Berger (Mike), Steven Brossart (Marybeth), Karen Williams (Mike, deceased), Joseph Brossart (Kim) and Thomas Brossart. In addition, she leaves her ten grandchildren, Amy Berger Mclean (Rory), Michael, Katie, and Matthew Berger, Steven and Molly Brossart, Stacie Williams Edmiston (Chase), Stephanie Williams Wright (Justin) and Jack and Abby Brossart. Mom was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren who loved their Gigi. Mom's funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church. Her interment will take place in Cincinnati, Ohio in September. Our gratitude and appreciation are extended to Terry Ryan and her caregivers at Eternal Life Care Center. CARRIER, Theresa "Terri"

age 62, passed away on July 19, 2021 in Puerto Peñasco, Mexico. Terri was born in Douglas, AZ to Amalia Vega. In 1984, she married Richard "Rick" Carrier and they recently celebrated their 37th anniversary. After retiring from Raytheon, Terri and Rick moved to Puerto Peñasco. She is survived by her husband, Rick; mother, Amalia; brother, Albert; sister, Cindy; daughters, Jennifer (Dion), Clarissa, Crystal, Tiffany (Justin), and Kristin; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and many loving friends and family. Terri took every opportunity to spend time with loved ones and to create special memories we will never forget. Her smile and laughter will be greatly missed. CORDER, Ruth Hazel (Lord)

91, passed peacefully July 7, 2021, with family by her side.

Ruth was born May 12, 1930, in Cleveland, Tennessee, to the late Calvin and Eleanor Lord. She had four brothers: Frank, Carl, Stanley, and Richard.

The family homesteaded in Arizona in 1935, moved to California in 1943, and returned to Arizona in 1946. Ruth graduated from Tucson High in 1948. She married Wayne Corder, the love of her life, on May 20, 1950. During their 70 years together, they raised three beloved daughters: Betty, Sharon, and Janet.

As Ruth's interest in fashion grew, her retail career included working at Little Folke's Shoppe, Penney's, Montgomery Ward, Myerson's, and she eventually retired from Broadway Southwest.

Ruth and Wayne were adventurous and spent many happy hours camping, exploring, and traveling extensively around the world. They were members of El Camino Baptist Church for many years which led to wonderful experiences and lifelong friendships.

Ruth was known for her gentleness, quiet sense of humor, and optimism. Her southern hospitality always made others feel at ease, and her love of family shone brightly. She will be greatly missed. In addition to supporting her husband and daughters in all their endeavors, she also enjoyed reading, cooking, needlework, and gardening.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, just short of their 71st wedding anniversary and by her parents, Calvin and Eleanor Lord and brothers, Frank, Carl and Stanley. She is survived by daughters, Betty (Dennis) DeWeese of Montana, Sharon (Alan) Hale of California, and Janet (Jerry) High of Tucson; brother, Richard Lord of Tucson; sister-in-law, Charlotte Dillard of Ohio; grandchildren, Chelsea, Nicole, Jeremy, Brandon and Brent; great-grandchildren, Chloe and Henry; several nieces and nephews, and "adopted son" Victor DiBella.

GINGERICH, Mary

78, went to be with the Lord on July 17, 2021

with her family at her side.

Mary suffered from pneumonia for four weeks.

She is survived by her daughters, Denise and Tina and one son-in-law, Karl; a brother, Frank and sister, Jeannette.

She was a wife, mother, home maker and loved her family dearly.

She enjoyed her dog, chickens, gardening, cooking and reading.

She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

KELLEY, David Fenner

passed away peacefully on July 15, 2021, in Green Valley, Arizona. A resident of Chicago for more than three decades, he moved to Sahuarita, Arizona in 2016 with his loving wife, Norma Lopez Kelley. David is survived by his daughters, Lisa Stein (Daniel) and Rachel Gross (Steven) and six grandchildren, Madeline, Emma, Owen, Annah, Mallory, and Rebekah. He is also survived by his sister, Lousie Diehl (Lon) and brother, Carlton Kelley and two nephews, Seth and Tim. David was predeceased by his first wife of 44 years, Margaret Emilius Kelley. Born on November 15, 1934 in Orlando, Florida. David traveled the globe and lived life to the fullest. After graduating from the University of Florida in Gainsesville, he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War as a codebreaker and went on to a long career in the International textbook publishing before enjoying a second career as a mortgage broker. David was an outgoing, curious, and intelligent man who loved the Florida Gators, Cuban cigars, and cats of all sizes. KOMAREK, Naomi A.

A Memorial Service will be held for Naomi A. Komarek who passed away June 26, 2020, of natural causes at the age of 90. The service will be held on Friday August 6, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at East Lawn Mortuary, Grant Road, Tucson. Born March 5, 1930, Naomi was raised in Riverside Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. She married Howard Komarek and moved to Arizona. In Tucson, she and her husband helped run Castle Rock Ranch during the 1950's and 1960's. Naomi worked at various financial institutions in Tucson. She was best known as the manager of the Westerner Club of Western Savings and Loan.

Naomi is predeceased by her husband, Howard Komarek and her daughter, Kathleen Komarek. She is survived by her sister, Natalie Anderson of Riverside, Illinois; her son, Scott Komarek and her granddaughter, Mikayla Komarek, both of Raleigh North Carolina. Arrangements by EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY.

MCGUIRE, Donna M. Thomas

went to be with the Lord on May 16, 2020. She is survived by nine children, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A grandson predeceased her. She grew up in Carrolltown, PA and settled in Tucson, AZ, in 1959. Widowed with three children at age 21 after losing her first husband in WWII, she married and had 57 years with her second husband before he died. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Frances Cabrini for over 60 years. She loved chocolate, her family and playing bridge, and was the go-to person for family information; she remembered everything. We are lost without her. No service planned at this time. In her honor donations to St Vincent de Paul Society are appreciated.

MELENDEZ, Alice Marian

nee O'Neill

On July 23, 2021, at 91 years of age Alice peacefully departed her earthly garden for Paradise. Born in Manchester, England on May 3, 1930. She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Carlos. She is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Carlos S. Melendez; six children, Michael, Rick (Teresa), Steven (Elke), Rebecca (Joe), Andrew and Thomas; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Generous, kind, gracious and steadfast through life. Those who knew her and loved her enjoyed her quick wit and very British sense of humor. Alice was an avid reader, loved her garden and a fierce defender of human rights. She was by far the most loving mother and grandmother to all.

PETERSEN, Maxine

Stepped into the light July 24, 2021 at the age of 100. She was born in West Virginia to Harold and Emma Flowers. In her 20's she married Roger Tricot who was tragically killed while on active duty in WWII. Following that loss, she traveled to Del Mar, California and later made her way to Hollywood finding work in an advertising agency. While in Hollywood she met and married Hans 'Bud' Petersen. They were married for 50 years until his death from Alzheimer's.

Having a rough start in life Maxine was an orphan by age seven, having lost her mother at four months old and her father at seven. During the depression with limited options, she and her three young siblings (Russ, Lois and Mike) never found a home. Even with this difficult start our mother became a loving, caring, creative adult.

Maxine was a wonderful example of love, compassion and patience. She gave my brother and I many of life's gifts; the love of animals, laughter, art, nature and music, and to be honest and responsible for your actions. She could create something out of very little and in that she taught us to be creative and to see possibilities.

She is survived by daughter Karen Coyle (Joe) and Tom Petersen (Liz). Special thanks to Deborah and staff at San Nicholas Assisted Living and her previous care staff Maritza, Robert and Manny at another facility. Thank you to Kirsten and the staff at Casa de la Luz Hospice.

PIXLEY, Donald R. Jr.,

"And her daddy was a sailor,

Sailed the ocean wide…"

Much can be said about Donald R. Pixley Jr., who left this planetary realm on July 23, 2021 during the steady calm after a raging monsoon, the likes of which Southern Arizona hasn't seen in some time.

It made sense that Don would align his departure with the "sailors' delight" of a blazing red sunset as he was keenly tuned into weather patterns, having spent 19 years sailing the world's oceans and then another 15 years fishing America's greatest rivers.

Don's early life was more traditional. Born in 1934 in Denver to Clara and Donald R. Pixley Sr., he attended East High School and graduated from Colorado College. While working in corporate finance in Denver and NYC, Don had daughters, Carey and Jill with his first wife, Elizabeth (Maier).

Adventurous and competitive, Don would race just about anything - skis, cars, boats - and it was his love of the water that propelled him and his second wife, Linda (McNeal), into the world of yacht-chartering and sail-making in the Virgin Islands and Tahiti. After 19 years, Don and Linny returned stateside, where they discovered a passion and an aptitude for fly fishing. Obsessed by both the art and the science of fishing, they traveled the country in an RV, reading the hatches, casting their lines, and creating lasting bonds with the fly-fishing community at the Henry's Fork and beyond.

Don was a sportsman, a businessman, a skipper, a traveler, a conversationalist, a reveler, an independent thinker, a curious soul, and a dear friend to many. He is predeceased by his wife, Linda and brother, Skip. He is survived by his two daughters, Carey Marshall (John) and Jill Pixley (Chris) and three grandchildren, Ryan, Jake and Nicole Marshall.

A private memorial with family members will be held, and his ashes will be scattered in the water he so dearly loved. Arrangements by AVENIDAS CREMATION AND BURIAL.

SMITH, Lewis Reading

of Tucson, Arizona, passed away at his home on July 9, 2021. He was born in Lake County, Indiana on June 4, 1935 to R. Barlow Smith and Lois (Riddle) Smith. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from MIT in electrical engineering. He worked as a circuit design engineer, independent consultant and engineering manager for a number of electronic companies. As an early employee of Analog Devices, he designed many of their first products. Later, as a consultant for EG&E, he designed the video preamplifier for the first Mars Lander. At Burr-Brown, he developed precision data acquisition products.

He married Evelyn Wolff in 1957; they spent over fifty years together. After her death, he married Jean Scheibe; they spent 12 years together. He is survived by his wife, Jean; her children, Fred and Cyndy; his children, Elizabeth, Steven, Philip and Sharon; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, three siblings, Annabel Wullaert, Walter Smith and Peter Smith; a sister-in-law, Penelope Wolff and all of their families.

Lew shared his love of flying, hiking, education and travel with family, friends, and many others. An avid flyer, he logged over 2,000 ultralight and paraglider flights. He was an amateur radio operator (N7KSB) and published over a dozen articles in ham radio magazines. He also spent hours volunteering as a math tutor for local high school students.

A Memorial Service with be held at St. John on the Desert Presbyterian Church on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL.

SONGER, Dr. J. Glenn

was born on February 10, 1950 in Quincy, MA, passed away on July 26, 2021 in Tucson, AZ. He was a professor and researcher in Veterinary Microbiology for a total of 37 years between the University of Arizona and his alma mater, Iowa State University. Research took him around the world from Australia to France, From N. Ireland to Thailand, from Belfast to Budapest, from Paris to Rome and more. In his work he wrote 53 scientific publications, three textbooks (one of which was translated into Korean) and had 857 citations. He had a wide range of interests and hobbies. He especially liked bow hunting, forging knives and working with wood. He completely took apart and restored his BMW and Chevy truck. And he was never without a book in his hand. He is survived by his wife, Pam of 48 years; his children, Ashley Harmon (Greg) and Alistair and his three beautiful grandchildren, Natalie, Nathan and Ellie Harmon. Glenn was generous with a quick wit and dry sense of humor. He was committed to God, his family and his friends. One week before his passing he said, "Jesus is good. And someday, sooner or later when I see His face, it's going to be a good day!" Someone once said, "We see death as the end, but God sees it as the beginning."
