ANDERSON, June

ANDERSON, June

It is with our deepest sorrow and grief that on October 23, 2018, the Lord chose to take our beloved mother, June Anderson (94) to join her husband of almost 70 years, Arthur L. Anderson, and be reunited forever in heaven. She is survived by her four children of Tucson, Arizona: Michael (Susan) Anderson, Mark (Diane) Anderson, Roger Anderson and Anita (Anderson) Squires; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren, her rescue cat Snookie and her rescue dog Murphy, most of whom were present and surrounded her with love upon her passing. A private memorial ceremony will be performed at East Lawn Cemetery in Tucson, Arizona. In lieu of flowers and because our mother was an avid animal lover, the family is requesting that donations be made to either Pima County Care Center (PACC) in Tucson or the Human Society of Southern Arizona in Tucson on her behalf. She was a wonderful, loving, supportive mother who devoted her life to her children and will be greatly missed by our entire family. We will cherish the memories and continue the legacy she has left behind to make her proud. Our light, our life, our love for always. She will be in our hearts forever.

BASSETT, Ruth Capp Bell, MD

BASSETT, Ruth Capp Bell, MD

BASSETT, Ruth Capp Bell, MD

Our loving, brilliant and courageous mother passed away October 6, 2018, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. She is peacefully in her Heavenly Father's arms for eternity. Ruth was born January 1, 1934 in Norfolk, VA to William Harrell and Dr. Ruth Harrell, two prominent educators in their fields. They taught her the importance of a relationship with Jesus, serving people and the value of an education. Her late mother described her beautifully in a letter, "She is loved wherever she goes. She's for the underdog, the slighted, the abused, the impoverished, and for the friendless." She was known particularly for her kind and gentle manner, her exceptional intelligence, and her often-mentioned love for Jesus. Ruth grew up sailing competitively on Chesapeake Bay while also becoming valedictorian of her high school class. She graduated twice from Duke University with a BS in zoology and an MD, where she was one of three women in a medical school class of 74. While at Duke, she met her first husband, Paul Capp, MD. She began a psychiatry residency at University of North Carolina but after having three children in three years, she delayed completing her residency. She, Paul and their four children moved to Tucson in 1970, playing integral roles at the new University of Arizona College of Medicine. While raising her children, she was active in her church, rode horses and managed to sail whenever possible. She completed her psychiatry residency at University of Arizona in 1979 and held several positions in Tucson and Virginia. She practiced as a psychiatrist in a private practice and as a staff psychiatrist at La Frontera Center, Group Health Medical Associates and Portsmouth Psychiatric Center. Ruth was able to actively pursue her love of sailing while married to Bill Bell and they enjoyed sailing with the Tucson Sailing Club together until his death in 1986. In 1987, she embarked on a trans-Atlantic sailing race on a 35 ft. boat from Spain to Barbados for a month at sea. She eventually married Tom Bassett, also a sailor. They enjoyed sailing in San Diego for many years. Ruth loved the Lord with all her heart and worshiped and served at various churches over the years. Denominations didn't matter to her as she was an active member of the Catholic, Presbyterian, Episcopalian and First Christian Church congregations. Her final church home was St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church where she served in the Order of St. Luke's Healing Ministry. She is preceded in death by her parents, two siblings who died as young children, and her husbands, Bill Bell and Tom Bassett. She is survived by her children, Marianne Capp Hadden (Bob), Mike Capp, Steve Capp (Patty), John Capp (Phyllis); grandchildren, Adam McDaniel (Crystal), David McDaniel, Kaytee Hogland (Austin), Jacob Capp, Lucas Capp, Brian Capp, Julianne Capp; great-grandchildren, Kellen McDaniel, Brooks McDaniel. She is also survived by her former husband, Paul Capp, MD. She was a loving and supportive mother throughout her exceptional life and she will be greatly missed. A Celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 17, 2018, 3:30 p.m. St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Ruth Capp, MD Scholarship Endowment which provides funds for female students at Pima Community College. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel.

Age 96, died in Tucson, Arizona on October 10, 2018. Shirley was born in Dunedin, New Zealand on June 28, 1922. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Vera Patterson; her wonderful husband, Warren in 1993 and her daughter, Linda Graham, August 26, 2018. She is survived by her daughter, Robin (Doug) Rainwater and three grandchildren, Ramona Graham, Robert (Rose) Rainwater and Lindsay Rainwater as well as two great-grandchildren, Avery Hayden and Abraham Colby. In New Zealand she is survived by three nieces, Michelle (Bert) Tarry, Joanne (Murray Jacques) Patterson, Erin (Darren) Rawnsley and one nephew, Dean (Lesley) Patterson. After her early growing up years in Dunedin, Shirley moved to Auckland where she studied to be a kindergarten teacher. In 1943 the American Marines and Navy came to New Zealand for respite from World War II. She met Warren at a dance and after a short romance they were married in August of that year. In May of 1946 they traveled on a ship full of war brides to the United States where they docked in San Francisco. They traveled by train down to San Diego and then across the southwest until the arrived in Safford, Arizona. Shirley thought she had landed in hell as it was so hot and desolate compared to New Zealand. After six weeks, they made their way back to the Bay Area where both Robin and Linda were born. They lived in the Bay Area until 1956 when they moved to Tucson. While Shirley was a Kiwi forever, she grew to love the desert and never wanted to live anywhere else. For many years she worked as the bookkeeper for Warren's business, but eventually became the Parish Secretary at St. Philip's in the Hills Episcopal Church where she and her family had started worshiping in 1957. The parish was an integral part of her life where she participated in many activities including the altar guild, bell ringers and prayer shawl knitters. Shirley and Warren had a wonderful life together. They travelled and camped all over the western United States and treated Robin and Linda to many great adventures. She loved to hike when she was younger, especially on the many trails around Tucson. She also loved to visit New Zealand to visit family and friends and was fortunate to make her last visit in 2011 with special friend and fellow Kiwi, Sue Cross. Shirley will always be remembered for her love of family, her fantastic totally homemade macaroni and cheese (so delicious), ANZAC cookies, and chicken enchiladas. Services will be held Thursday, November 29, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Philips in the Hills Episcopal Church, Tucson, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Salvation Army of Tucson. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel.

KYLE, Roy W.

KYLE, Roy W.

KYLE, Roy W.

Born in Tucson on January 27, 1948 to his beloved parents, William C. Kyle and Bernice Goff Kyle, Roy died on September 20, 2018. He was with a number of his loved ones when he gently passed. Roy was raised in Tucson and graduated from Catalina High School, the University of Arizona and the University of Arizona College of Law. He loved Tucson and Southern Arizona, and he never left. He spent much of his early life working with his Uncle Joe Goff and cousin Charlie on the Goff Ranch. The work was long and hard. Perhaps it was there that he learned two of his greatest virtues: never complain and always have a wicked sense of humor; they stayed with him throughout his life. Roy was a big, strong man who looked tough, but was truly the gentlest and kindest of men. That kindness and gentle concern for others was at the heart of our great friend. From his early days at public school to his college and law school years and on through his professional life, Roy made many friends who were friends for life. He thought he was the luckiest of men to have such great friends. His friends thought they were the luckiest. Such is true friendship. From the day he entered law school, Roy was quiet, reserved and rarely spoke; however, it soon became apparent that he had an exceptional mind. He excelled as a student, despite the fact that he worked his way through law school. The jobs he had were physical, often at night, and didn't pay too well. He never complained. His diligence and great sense of humor guided him. Upon graduation in 1973, Roy joined the Tucson firm of Robertson Molloy Fickett and Jones (later Molloy Jones and Donahue). He was there for 19 years. He was a partner at Brown and Bain (now Perkins Coie) from 1993-2002. He finished his career at Lewis and Roca and retired in 2017. Roy was an outstanding lawyer, but to find that out you had to ask others because he totally refused to even hint at his achievements. He was named among the Best Lawyers of America in 2012, 2016-2017 and was Lawyer of the Year in 2012 and 2015. He had a thriving practice in Banking Finance Law and Mergers and Acquisitions. His practice focus was on the development, negotiation and implementation of organizational, financial and transactional strategies for business. Importantly, Roy was recognized as one of the finest bond lawyers in Arizona. He was also responsible for the legal aspects of the successful "privatization" of the University of Arizona Medical Center and was its outside general counsel for 26 years. Among his professional affiliations were the American Health Lawyers Association, the Arizona Association of Health Care Lawyers, the Pima County Bar Association and the American Bar Association. Throughout his career, Roy made lifelong friends among his colleagues, among those who practiced on the other side of transactions and among his clients. He was always fair, and he was usually the smartest person in the room. Roy also gave to the community he loved. He was a Life Member of the Tucson Conquistadors. He believed strongly that the money the conquistadors raised in the golf tournaments truly made a difference in young people's lives. He was invited to join the Conquistadors in 1985 and was a presence until the last year of his life. He was President of the Conquistadors in 1995-96, as well as working on several committees. He worked hard in every golf tournament with never a complaint and always the great sense of humor that we all loved. Roy was also a member of the Tucson Airport Authority for many years, becoming a member emeritus in 2018. Roy is survived by many loving family member and countless friends. His family members include his wife, Kathleen Kyle; his son, David Kyle; his stepchildren, Chandra Prough (Greg) and Brandon Callister; his grandchildren, Anisa and Lucas Kersten and Ainsley and Tyler Prough; his sister, Ruth Misevch (Lee); his nephew, Michael Misevch (Gwen) and niece, Shelly Misevch; his beloved cousin, Charlie Goff (Connie); Charlie's children, Seldon Goff, Kaylee Orr and Emily Goff; and his daughter, Whitney Kyle (Eric Kersten). A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the 3C Ranch, 36033 South Mount Lemmon Road, Oracle, Arizona. Directions can be found at www.3cranchaz.com. Donations in Roy's honor may be made to Tucson Conquistadors Foundation, 6450 E. Broadway, Tucson, Arizona 85710 or to Habitat for Humanity, 3501 N. Mountain Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85710. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel.

ROLLINGS, Harry Kelley

ROLLINGS, Harry Kelley

ROLLINGS, Harry Kelley

Harry "Kelley" Rollings passed away peacefully on October 24, 2018 in the Tucson home he and his wife Sally have shared for over 70 years. He was 91. Born at The Stork's Nest in downtown Tucson on January 12, 1927, he was the only child of Elizabeth Kelley (Nebraska) and Harry Rollings (South Carolina).

Kelley attended University Heights elementary school and Mansfeld Junior High. He graduated from Tucson High School (1944) where he was Editor of The Cactus Chronicle and graduated from Princeton University (1948) where he majored in history. After college, Kelley served in the U.S. Navy as an Electronic Technician's Mate. He married his high school classmate Sally Bacon on August 8, 1948 at Saint Philip's in the Hills.

Kelley's father owned an automobile dealership in downtown Tucson, whose most colorful customer turned out to be the outlaw John Dillinger. The afternoon before his gang was rounded up in 1934, Dillinger drove his Hudson into the dealership. He asked Kelley's father to help him get his car licensed but it was too late in the day, so they kept the car in the dealership overnight. The next day the machine guns concealed behind the back seat and the hubcaps stuffed with cash made a big impression on Kelley, who was seven years old at the time. As an adult, Kelley worked alongside his father and took over the car dealership upon his father's death. In 1980, the employees purchased Rollings Motor Company.

Kelley and Sally both were active in Tucson's non-profit sector. Kelley was president of the Tucson Festival Society and also of the Tucson Fine Arts Association, which became the Tucson Museum of Art. Kelley tirelessly pursued his interest in history, local architecture, travel, and collecting art. In 1967 he opened America West Primitive & Modern Art Gallery. As an art dealer, he was as at home at the Tucson Gem Show as he was at international auctions in New York. He enjoyed designing jewelry using stones he purchased from around the world.

In 1971 Kelley was the Democratic candidate for Mayor when building the Butterfield Expressway through downtown was a disputed campaign issue. The Expressway would have demolished hundreds of Tucson's earliest homes and businesses. Kelley and Sally joined the community opposing the Expressway and purchased two buildings in its path in order to make a stand against further demolition.

From 1971 until his death, he built a family business with his children in downtown Tucson's Barrio Viejo. The many 19th century adobes he preserved are now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. One of the first buildings he restored is today's Cushing Street Bar & Restaurant, originally a dry goods store on a street named after Lt. Howard B. Cushing who was killed by the Chiricahua Apaches during an 1871 campaign in the Arizona Territory.

Kelley's efforts gained national attention in 1979. Americana Magazine described Rollings as a person who "possesses precisely the quality that the thinkers behind urban renewal lacked: an architect's eye for the possible, the ability to see the beauty that lies hidden in an old city." Honors he received later in his life included the 2005 Arizona Governor's Heritage Award for lifetime achievement for his work in preserving historic adobe buildings. In 2006, he was inducted into the Tucson High Hall of Fame, where his photo can be found in the school's entry. Daughter Betsy and granddaughter Lauren also were THS graduates.

Kelley enjoyed traveling the world with his family, and especially loved Alamos, Sonora, Mexico and New York City. Some of his final destinations included India, Egypt and Cambodia. In the last few years of his life he designed and landscaped lush patios at his home where he could relax with family.

Kelley is survived by his wife of 70 years, Sally. His children all reside in Tucson: Bradley, Donald (Nan), Betsy, and Anne (Sandy) Shiff. He has four loving grandchildren in Arizona and California: Elizabeth Friman (Doug), Jim Rollings (Carrie), Lauren Veta (Alex), and Harry Shiff.

The Rollings family wants to thank a wonderful group of private caregivers and the staff of Casa de la Luz Hospice for the extraordinary care that they provided.

For those who wish to donate in Kelley's memory, please consider The Salvation Army (1002 N. Main Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85705) or the Tucson High Badger Foundation (P.O. Box 5424, Tucson, AZ 85703). At a later date, there will be a gathering of family and friends in Kelley's honor. Arrangements by ANGEL VALLEY FUNERAL HOME.

SEVERYN, Eric

SEVERYN, Eric

SEVERYN, Eric

passed away on September 20, 2018. He was born in Tucson, Arizona in 1961 and after owning his own business and working as an accountant, went back to college and obtained a bachelor's degree. He is predeceased by his parents, Henry and Martha. Eric's unique personality, sense of humor and lifestyle caused many to comment over the years that he marched to the beat of his owner drummer. I personally think it was his own band and those of us that knew him were willing to wait in line for days for tickets to the show because it was worth every minute. The world will be much quieter without his laughter that could warm the coldest of hearts and bring a smile to the saddest of souls. If he could have given us all a good-bye message, I think it would simply have been "peace out." You were always loved and will be forever missed, Carol and Chris. Arrangements by DESERT ROSE HEATHER.
