HUNNICUTT, John Alan

was born January 4, 1946 in Huntington, IN and passed in peace on June 14, 2018. His family moved to Tucson shortly after his birth. He was a graduate of Salpointe Catholic HS (1963) and the University of Arizona (1969). He had a varied and colorful professional career. As a CPA, he moved into entrepreneurial ventures founding several computer companies most notable was Magcard, Inc., a pioneer in the credit card industry, employing many Tucsonans. Other ventures included telecom, restaurants, construction media, and his most recent passion, The Arizona Daily Independent, becoming an impactful advocate of community issues ranging from education to the border and the protection of the A-10 squadron. He enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors with family and friends including water skiing, fishing, hunting or golf with the rare score below 100. His appetite for the game was never dampened by his inability. He was affectionately known as "Gus" or "Bear" to many and always had a contagious smile on his face. "Papa" was a wonderful and loving grandfather to his ten grandchildren spending countless hours attending sporting events, concerts and chess matches. John was generous and optimistic. Those who knew him can easily recall many stories of his unwavering belief in the good just ahead. He gave back to his community as a member of the Rotary Club and St. Pius X Catholic Church. Survived by his loving wife, Loretta (Vosberg) of ten years; stepson, David Gutman; mother, Janice (Brown); daughter, Jennifer (Chris 2014) Ferrell of Tucson; their children, Olivia and Carter; son, John (Cathy) Hunnicutt of Nashville, TN; their children, Gwendolyn, Allison, and Ella; stepdaughter, Darla (Chris) Greer and their children, Brian, Steven, Katie, Corrin and Bradley; brother, Robert (Debbie) Hunnicutt; sisters, Rose (Bill) Gleeson, Katherine (Billy 2016) Moyer, Gail (George) Hoyos, Margi (Mark 2007) White and extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, John (1979) and his brother, Ross (1974). His life will be celebrated with a Mass at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1800 N. Camino Pío Décimo, Tucson, Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements by ANGEL VALLEY FUNERAL HOME.

SHACTER, Francine E.

(Age 90) Francine Shacter, of Tucson, AZ, formerly of Bethesda and Highland, MD, died peacefully on June 14, 2018. Francine was born in Los Angeles, CA, graduated from Hollywood High School, and briefly attended UCLA, before marrying and raising four children. Years later, in the middle of life, while working full time, she obtained her BA from Goddard College, Plainfield, VT. Her work experience extended from owning and operating her own business as a fashion designer and seamstress, to a distinguished career as an administrator at the US Census Bureau and the Consumer Product Safety Commission. One of her many passions was Democratic Party politics, serving as a precinct chair, running for Register of Wills, and culminating in her primary run for US Representative for the 8th Congressional District of Arizona in 2006. Francine was a noted dog breeder and trainer, always willing to share her expertise with friend and stranger. Of her many other accomplishments, Francine was a craft artist, including macramé, weaving, and quilting, and a musician, playing both the harp and the recorder. She is survived by her loving children, Michael, Jeffrey and Emily; her daughter-in-law, Beth Wheeler and her adored grandchildren, Gabriel and Matai. Her loving daughter, Deborah died four years ago. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Villa Hermosa, 6300 E. Speedway, Tucson, AZ. 85710. Donations in Francine's memory can be made to the ACLU, the Arizona Democratic Party, or The Drawing Studio in Tucson.
